I’ve finished up the first week of the YMCA’s Mini-Marathon training program that I randomly decided to sign up for. Part of the decision was based on having a $50 coupon to the YMCA, part based on wanting to be more social (in running and life..), and part on having a structured plan.
With the program I’ll get an assessment by a personal trainer and a meeting with a dietitian. The trainer will tell me to work on everything, I’m sure. I really look forward to the dietitian though! I’d like to learn some healthier eating ideas.
The program has easy runs, getting up to 4 miles, on Mondays. Wednesday nights are long run nights, which will be interesting for me. And Saturday mornings will have 45 minute tempo runs followed by strength training for the first few weeks, then yoga, then pilates. There’s lots of speakers and informative sessions after a lot of the Monday runs, a tshirt, a dinner towards the end, and a couple of pitchins thrown in. The longest long run is 12 miles.
I haven’t found anyone that seems to run close to my pace though, which is a little disappointing. We’ll be split in to pace groups this Wednesday, so maybe I can find someone to adapt to.
Anyways, I’m pretty happy with it so far. Hopefully my legs continue to cooperate and I have a good time!
