Today, I went to visit the Brooks Cavalcade of Curiosities when the Run Happy bus stopped at Castleton Square Mall.
The lower level of the bus has a couple small “freak show” type displays of some of the features of the Brooks shoes. Pretty entertaining and creative little displays.
The upper level of the bus has a couple of treadmills set up to do gait analysis. That’s what I was there for! I wanted to make sure that I was running in the correct shoe. I’m using the Brooks Ravenna right now because the Adrenaline GTS10 gave me such problems. I wasn’t all that positive that I had gone in the right direction.
They found that the angle between the center of my heel and the center of my calf was around 173.5 on the right and 174.5 on the left. That put me in the mild to moderate pronator category. Which means that the Ravenna is just right for me! I also have a flat-low arch and a normal foot width. I wasn’t sure about the arches, but maybe that explains why I’m liking the extra support of the Superfeet?
They also told me to check out the Cascadia trail running shoe. I was curious about that because it will be a little better for running in the cold, snow, slush, and ice during the winter. I enjoyed the Adrenaline ASR6 last year, but since the GTS10 gave me such problems I wasn’t too keen on trying the ASR7.
Brooks has done a pretty neat job with this little bus. They aren’t selling anything directly on the bus, so there wasn’t any pressure to buy a shoe right then, just the information on how I run and a couple of shoe recommendations. The bus will be at the Runner’s Forum in Carmel on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Indy folks should stop by to check it out and maybe get a free “Running Freak” bumper sticker like I did.
