Ready for the Indianapolis Monumental Half

So, after a hard year of plantar fasciitis and shinsplints I feel like I am ready to run the Indianapolis monumental half marathon on Saturday. The training has not gone as well as I would have hoped but I feel like I am ready to run the full (half?)13.1 miles. I did some of the runs by myself, some of the runs with the group at work, and some other runs with the Indy runners group. The weather is supposed to be in the lower 30s at the start and maybe into the middle 40s at the end. I think . . . → Read More: Ready for the Indianapolis Monumental Half

Carmel Marathon Keybank 8k

Today I ran the Carmel Marathon Keybank 8k. It was the second year for the race weekend that consists of a full marathon, half marathon, 8k, and one mile family walk. Last year I ran the half marathon, but since I’m not yet back in shape to run 13.1 miles I opted for the 8k race instead.

It was pretty chilly this morning with air temps in the low 40’s and a wind chill in the upper 30’s. Some would say perfect running weather but I was a little chilly the whole time in shorts and a long sleeve tech . . . → Read More: Carmel Marathon Keybank 8k

Emerald City Half Marathon Race Report

Today I ran the Emerald City Half Marathon in Dublin, Ohio!

I left on Saturday and the first stop in town was at Fleet Feet Columbus for packet pickup. They were giving $50 off either the Asics Speedstar or DS-Trainer, so I just had to take advantage. The DS-Trainer was a shoe I had been curious about anyways, so I tried them on the treadmill for a minute or two and decided to take them home. $60 for a new shoe is a pretty good deal in my book.

I did my pre-race carb loading at CiCi’s pizza. Not good . . . → Read More: Emerald City Half Marathon Race Report

Firecracker 6 Race Report

On Monday, July 4, Independence Day, I ran the Firecracker 6 in downtown Indianapolis. It was the second year for the race, and my second time running in.

When I arrived at the Indy City Market there was a light drizzle, though the forecast wasn’t really calling for rain. I got my bib and goodie bag then headed back to the car to put my stuff down and pin the number on. Headed back to the Market and there was still the light drizzle but it had lightened up and had completely stopped by the time we were ordered to . . . → Read More: Firecracker 6 Race Report

Carmel Half Marathon Running

Today was the Carmel Half Marathon and I finished in 2:12 watch time. There was some walking after mile 9 because my hip felt like it was tightening up again. Just wasn’t feeling 100% after having a cold this week, and my training after the Mini didn’t go well. Just that one 9.something mile run and a couple six milers.

My 500Festival MiniMarathon Race Report

Today was race day! Yipee!

I left my house at about 5:45AM, well it was exactly 5:45AM as I hit the button to lower the garage door. Made it downtown fast enough, just a bit of traffic getting in to my chosen garage. I parked basically right outside of my coral. I hit the porta pottie, then watched the start of the 5k race, then back to the porta pottie (last minute jitters!), a little stretching, then in to my coral. I was much further forward this year, in coral E, so I was to the start line in under . . . → Read More: My 500Festival MiniMarathon Race Report

Still some numbness when running

On Saturday I ran the 5k in about 26:27.. I say about because the online results just showed my gun time for some reason, so my time is what Runkeeper on my iPhone showed. I did the miles in 8:26, 8:27, and 8:51. The last mile was so much slower because of the numbness in my feet coming up. In the new shoes. Ugh!

Today our training run was about 3.06 miles and I averaged a 8:51 pace. There really wasn’t any numbness, but I had put the Superfeet green in my shoes. I think the extra arch support and . . . → Read More: Still some numbness when running

Indianapolis Monumental Half Race Report

Today was the big day – The Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon. Race time temp was around 27 degrees! I hung out in the lobby area of the parking garage until about 20 minutes before start time. I had on my Brooks Infiniti beanie, Nike convertible gloves, Nike “thermal” running shirt and vest, and Brooks running pants. I was cold, for sure, but not overly so.

I couldn’t hear the announcer very well, but apparently the wheelchair dudes started about a minute before the rest of us. It took me about two minutes to get to the starting mat. It was . . . → Read More: Indianapolis Monumental Half Race Report

Countdown to the Indy Monumental Half Marathon

So, I’ve neglected the blog. But I haven’t neglected my running, and the Indy Monumental Half Marathon is this coming Saturday.

I got in 10 mile and 7 mile runs on the Monon the past couple Saturday’s. It was pleasant enough, and I kinda liked seeing other people the entire time. Good change of pace from running around the hood.

I’m not nearly as fast as I was when I ran the Mini in May. I’ll be surprised if I go under 2 hours for the 13.1 miles. I’ve one a single 10 mile run, the same as I did . . . → Read More: Countdown to the Indy Monumental Half Marathon
