Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon Race Report

Today, November 2, 2013, was the day that I’d been training for since the beginning of June. I’ve logged 484 miles since then while following a Lydiard based training plan from Running Wizard & Running Ahead. I’ve had off and on knee pain since August and have been wearing Cho-Pat patellar tendon straps on both legs since then. Maybe not the smartest way to run, but it’s gotten me to the starting line and the knee pain has all but gone away.

It was a nice enough morning for a run. Around 40 . . . → Read More: Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon Race Report

Let’s Go Racing @IndyMonumental Half

Well, I’m ready for my goal half marathon – The Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon! I’ve been training since the beginning of June and feel that I’m mostly prepared for the race. I don’t know that I have a 1:52:28 in me, but I think I can break my personal record of 1:56 and change from my first 500 Festival Mini Marathon in 2010.

Cya at the finish line!

Catching up on things

Well, like I usually tend to do, I forgot about the blog for a few weeks. Oops!

On July 4, 2013, I ran the Firecracker 6 mile race in downtown Indianapolis. I have a bit of a streak going with this one since this was my 4th year of the race and the 4th time it was run. It starts at the City Market, just a couple blocks off of Monument Circle. In fact, the course was slightly changed this year and the race started off with us running towards and around the north half of the circle. I always . . . → Read More: Catching up on things

Hoosier Park 8K Race Report

Nestle Bunny

I ran the third race of the Hoosier Park 8K Triple Crown Series today, which was at the Hoosier Park horse track in Anderson, IN. Anderson, IN is also home of the world famous Nestle Bunny on the side of I69. Quite a treat!

I went in hoping to average 8:45/mile.

The pre-race festivities were near the finish line and included a trumpeter playing “To Post,” which was pretty cool. The race started on the back stretch of the horse track, just off turn 2, so we walked as a group (field of 266) around to the . . . → Read More: Hoosier Park 8K Race Report

Head for the Cure 5K Race Report

Nice morning for a race

I ran the Head for the Cure 5K at West Park in Carmel, IN, yesterday. It was a nice little race with 163 runners in the timed event and several hundred more in the untimed event that were participating for the charity aspect. The event was to benefit the American Brain Tumor Association. It was rather timely because yesterday afternoon my mom told me that one of my dad’s high school friends had been given a couple weeks to live due to a brain tumor.

Two complaints about the race. The first was that . . . → Read More: Head for the Cure 5K Race Report

Eagle Creek 8K Trail Race – Hoosier Park Triple Crown 8K Race 2

Pretty morning at Eagle Creek

I ran an 8k race at Eagle Creek park this morning as part of the Hoosier Park 8K Triple Crown series. I knew it would be a trail race and I’ve only run on trails once previously, so I knew I’d be pretty dang slow! The race started out on a beautiful spring morning with temps in the low 50’s. Good weather for a long sleeve tech shirt, for me anyways.

I don’t know the trails at Eagle Creek at all, so I’m not too sure where all we ran. I just followed . . . → Read More: Eagle Creek 8K Trail Race – Hoosier Park Triple Crown 8K Race 2

Carmel Marathon 2014 here I come!

I’m a sucker for a sale.

The folks at the Carmel Marathon are / were offering half price registration for the 2014 events through today. That made the marathon just $37.50.

How could I resist?

I couldn’t. I’ve aborted marathon plans twice now, but I’m hoping to be more successful since I’m losing weight.

So I’m now registered for a marathon eleven months from now. And I will get to do my long runs in the cold Indiana winters. Sounds like I am in for a bunch of fun. Anyone else get suckered register?

Carmel Marathon Weekend 8K race report

I ran the Carmel Marathon Weekend 8K race this morning and had a pretty decent time. It was a chilly, but pretty, morning with the race temp around 35 degrees. I decided to go pantless! But, did wear gloves. Before the start of the marathon and half marathon a trumpeter from Hoosier Park horse track played the National Anthem and then played “Call to the Post”. That was a pretty unique touch, I thought. There was also a moment of silence for Boston.

When my race started a half an hour later we got the call to the post again. . . . → Read More: Carmel Marathon Weekend 8K race report

Ready for Carmel 8k race

I’m ready to run the Carmel Marathon weekend 8k race on Saturday. And I have a renewed excitement because the Boston Marathon bombers have been killed and caught. It will be a chilly morning, so I’ll probably be wearing a long sleeve shirt and gloves. And my new Boston Red Sox hat with a Boston yellow ribbon on it. Should be a good time with this good news from tonight.

Oh, and I’ll be a “streaker” since I’ve run in each of the 3 Carmel Marathon Weekend races; the half the first year, 8k last year, and 8k this . . . → Read More: Ready for Carmel 8k race

Monumental Half Marathon Race Report

I ran the Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon today in two hours and eleven minutes. But, it wasn’t the time that was important today. I just had a good time running!

I got downtown at about 7:00 but the traffic was backed up getting in to the parking garage, so I didn’t get out of my car until 7:15. I walked over to the convention center, waved at the group from work, then hit the bathroom. Another long wait. By then it was 25 minutes to the gun, so I walked over to the Indy Runners tent.
